Canidae

Canidae represents the contrasting views we hold on wolves and domesticated dogs. This artist’s book covers the history of domestication, the extinction of wolves in Yellowstone, and biological facts of both wolves and dogs that show readers that the two animals are a lot more similar than we think. It also includes two comics about how each animal views the other.

The book contains four narratives: two dedicated to the domesticated dog (Canis lupus familiaris) and two to the grey wolf (Canis lupus). I was inspired to create this work when I started reading about how the “big bad wolf” stereotype perpetuated in children’s picture books were endangering wolves to near extinction.
